Population
Although Curaçao is rather small, this island is magic because of its surprising variety in people.
With regard to the stories about its history it has mainly been the
home for three groups: a black, Catholic majority, a small group of
Dutch nobles and a small elite of Jews. When the Royal Dutch Shell started a
refinery early this century, immigrants of all over the world arrived to take
part at the economic luck. This caused a new ethnic mixture at Curaçao.
Each of these groups brought along its own culture and habits,
which adapted to the island to develop a unique culture.
That is why Curaçao offers a culinary variety for gourmets.
