Curaçao is a favourable holiday destination the whole year through as there is no rainy season on the island. Curaçao is situated in the very south of the Caribbean's, so that it is out of reach of the hurricane belt.

There are no vaccinations prescribed as there occur no tropical diseases in Curaçao. Curaçao's inhabitants have a very high standard of living, the indigenous people earn well and there is no unemployment. Thus you do not have to be afraid of criminality. You can move freely day and night. Curaçao is very clean and sea water is converted into portable tap water. Diarrhoea is no problem on the island due to the healthy water.

Sometimes you can also pay with euro cheques.

Time delay
The time delay from Germany is 5 hours in winter and 6 hours in summer.

Language
Curaçaos lingua franca is Dutch, due to the islands Dutch history. The colloquial language however is Papiamentu, the language of the Creole people, a lively mixture of European and African components. Papiamentu is spoken in all parts of society and therefore has a special status. The English language is also very widespread. Almost every inhabitant of the island also speaks Spanish fluently. One reason for this is the closeness to the South American continent.

Telecommunication
Curaçaos national dialling (country and area) code is 005999. There are no other dialling codes. To get connected from Curaçao to somewhere abroad you have to dial 00, than the international access code of the country you want to call and then the local dialling code without 0

International phone calls are about NAf 4.50/min to Germany, Austria and Switzerland. We advise you to buy a pre-paid telephone card and to use public phone booths. Long-distance calls are considerably more expensive in hotels. Larger hotels also offer fax service.

In Willemstad there are several internet cafés, which you can use for a small fee.
